The Plague on Madison Avenue

or

General Horsepital

by

Tom Frye

SYNOPSIS
This old west soap opera is the story of three generations of nurses. Our heroine nurse Madison, her mother nurse Dolly and Dolly’s mother, nurse Bubbles work at General Horsepital under the thumb of the terrible nurse Retched. (Played by a man in drag.) Then suddenly their life is turned around when young Dr. Killdeer arrives at the hospital and Madison falls in love, but the young doctor has another nurse infatuated with him, nurse Retched. Parading through the hospital is an assortment of characters that certainly doctor up the script. Patients are dying in droves and we are wondering who the villain might be. Maybe our young Dr. Buck Killdeer will save the day. (Even though every time his name is mentioned he is hit with a spotlight and he freezes.)

CAST of CHARACTERS:
6 men, 4 women, 1 unisex or as few as 3 men and 3 women with one man playing the narrator,
Dr. Lecornian, Stu, Custer, Luce and Hiney.
Narrator: Voice heard throughout the hospital PA system.
Madison Avenue: Beautiful heroine. She is a vulnerable nurse working at General Horsepital.
Dolly: Madison’s mother. Another hard working and loving nurse.
Bubbles: Dolly’s mother and Madison’s grandmother. A nurse and ex-stripper. Enough said.
Buck: Dr. Buck Killdeer. The dashing young doctor who always has that look in his eyes.
Nurse Retched: Played by a short man.
Dr. Lecornian: She makes Jack Nicholson cringe. Could play for the Packers as well. Is best if played by a man.
Stu Berger: Hospital administrator: Probably a former Nazi.
Custer: Yes, it’s the famous yellow hair himself.
Luce: A very pregnant woman. She really delivers.
Mr. Hiney: He’s a patient. He’s getting ready for surgery. A real cut up.
